Franklin’s History
The city of Franklin, TN, is the seat of Williamson County and was founded in October of 1799, named after Benjamin Franklin. Franklin has over 180 years of history, starting off as a small and tranquil town.
In November of 1864, one of the bloodiest well-known battles in America’s Civil War took place in Franklin, which hit the town hard. Franklin was occupied by union troops for almost three years, and by the time the battle was finished, over 8,000 casualties transformed this town into one giant hospital.
Over a century later, Franklin finally recovered its losses from the battle and regained its feet, rebuilding both the town and the population.
What Franklin, TN, Looks Like Today
Franklin is becoming one of the wealthiest, most populated cities in Williamson County and Tennessee as a whole. As of 2020, the Census lists the city’s population at 80,675, making it the 7th largest city in TN.
Cool Springs is an area in Franklin home to shopping, dining, and many Fortune 500 businesses that continue to bring in more visitors, jobs, and residents. As a testament to the city’s rapid growth, Business Week Magazine awarded Franklin as one of the top 50 cities to start a small business.
